Concept:
Tension and Release:
Def: tension\Ten"sion, The act of stretching or straining, A state of mental or emotional strain or suspense, A strained relationship between individuals, groups, nations.
We are deriving tension from the data received; an invisible energy spent in relation with the environment. That invisible energy that flows between two or more linked elements. Linkage that doesn´t allow the other to have the complete freedom to perform react in a free way. Two in contrast- dual status. What is the tension made of?.
This idea of tension implies a duality - tension could not exist without calm. In our context of an audiovisual performance, the performer is the object and also the means of resolution of this duality. The concepts are explored via the physicalities of both space and time.In a state of high tension, time is collapsed as the individual panics, attempting to maintain control of variables. Taking the opposite, in a state of calm, the user is at leisure to come to terms with their environment. It is within these two extremes that we can design a system to explore and articulate this duality.
We have thus developed a system in where the body of the performer is in seamless interaction with three modalities [body movements, sound, visuals] in a way meaningful to the external audience .
On one hand we have a real vs abstract world representated through images capturing from real life, vs abstract graphs that response to the movements of the performer. On the other hand, we have the sound that is some kind of representation of the intangible world regarding to the real presence of the performer, of its movements.
We think our project as a matrix. A matrix is a software, a computering software that creates a world in where the machines use men; it links them to take-steal their energy and direct their minds. The mind is the one who order, but is it real¿? If your mind believes in it, yes.
